Hi, my name is Suzy Hiltz, wife of Jeremy Hiltz, daughter of Fred and Anita Niederer, and mother of 5 children: Jonah, Zechariah, Samson, Thomas and Liliana Hiltz. I’m a sister to 8 siblings and a friend to many more. I live up in Northern Maine with my family on a small 40 acre homestead where we garden, raise laying hens, harvest raspberries, blueberries, apples and other yummy goods. I hold a current mobile food vending license where I bake out of my licensed home kitchen. My hobbies and interests have become a source of income as of late. But there are many things I enjoy that are not my job: outdoor adventuring in all 4 seasons, music (singing/drums), campfires, family, food and laughter. God is the center of all my thoughts, actions, love and gratitude. 

Where it all began...Suzy had a need for bug bite relief, and she knew just what to do. She reached back into her childhood to when her parents taught her about the benefits of plantain leaves in drawing out poison from bites or stings. Instead of pasting a fresh poultice on her skin she wanted to create a more pleasant salve that would last year round. Her first batch of Plantain Salve was created in the summer of 2014. She combined a few carrier oils, solarized plantain oil and beeswax. The recipe created far more than what she needed, so she gifted the remainder of product to her siblings, kid’s teachers and neighbors. After the second year she began receiving requests for more product. She was honored to have helped so many people find relief for their skin irritations. Naturally, she had to come up with a name. CHAPPED HIDE was the answer. Since 2014, Suzy has expanded her business a few times, upgrading containers, generating buzz any time a new testimonial came across her email. With all the hype it was decided that CHAPPED HIDE was going to become a household name.
